Public internet connections, with each data center having multiple 10 Gbps connections, for uploading your data to Cloud Synergy.

The advantages of this approach include the ability to use your existing internet connection without incurring additional costs or requiring extra provisioning.

However, there are drawbacks to consider. If you don’t have a high-speed internet connection, the data transfer process to Cloud Synergy may be time-consuming. For instance, transferring 1 TB of data can be accomplished in approximately 2 hours over a 1 Gbps connection, but it could take approximately 2 days over a 50 Mbps connection. You can perform your own calculations based on your file sizes and available bandwidth.

Cloud Synergy recalculates bucket quotas on a 24-hour cycle. When you delete files in an attempt to free up quota space, it may take up to 24 hours for our system to reflect this change, enabling you to resume data uploads.

File deletions can occur at various levels, such as when you delete an individual file or when you delete a parent folder, bucket, or account.

Here’s what happens when a file is deleted on Cloud Synergy:

1. The file is internally marked as ‘object deleted,’ effectively rendering it inaccessible via storage application.

2. Metadata associated with the deleted file is removed from the Cloud Synergy database.

3. The content of the deleted file is wiped from the Cloud Synergy storage disk, and the space previously occupied by the file undergoes a secure overwrite process called ‘compaction.’ Once this secure compaction process is completed, the disk space becomes available for storing other files.

It’s important to note that once a file, folder or account is deleted on Cloud Synergy via storage application, Cloud Synergy Support cannot recover the deleted content. The content is permanently erased from Cloud Synergy at this point. To mitigate concerns related to accidental or unintended deletions, consider using additional bucket with replication.

On a related note, in the event of a failure in a Cloud Synergy storage disk containing customer content, and the subsequent need for disk replacement, Cloud Synergy adheres to a similar secure process to ensure that the data on the failed disk remains inaccessible and unrecoverable. The business model with cloud object storage is that egress traffic (i.e. downloads) from the storage service to the player location is generally chargeable on a per-GB basis. The price is generally less than 0.10 EUR per GB but if you are doing many downloads and the files are large, this can result in some meaningful egress fee charges. Wasabi does not charge for egress but our pricing model is not suitable for use cases involving the hosting of videos in a manner where the ratio of egress downloads exceeds the amount of storage.

Our cloud storage services lack inherent encoding and decoding capabilities. Consequently, if you store a video file in a specific format, such as .mp4, and require the video player to receive it in an alternative format, this transformation must occur external to the storage service. In other words, the process of format conversion or encoding/decoding needs to be handled separately from the storage platform itself.
